§ 5-901. Annual awards for meritorious service.

For the official recognition of outstanding acts in the line of duty by the members of the Police, Fire, and Corrections Departments of the District of Columbia there shall be awarded annually 1 gold medal and 1 or more silver medals, appropriately inscribed, to those members of each Department who have by outstanding or conspicuous services earned such awards.

Law 5-94, the "Correctional Officers Meritorious Service Recognition Amendment Act of 1984," was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 5-342, which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Bill was adopted on first and second readings on April 10, 1984, and April 30, 1984, respectively. Signed by the Mayor on May 9, 1984, it was assigned Act No. 5-135 and transmitted to both Houses of Congress for its review.
