(a) Emergency assistance up to a maximum of $800 is available for burial and cremation services if the liquid assets of the deceased person at the time of death do not exceed $800.

(b) Burial assistance shall be subject to the availability of appropriations. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, nothing in this subchapter shall be construed to create an entitlement to burial assistance for any person.

(c) The Mayor shall implement this subchapter within 30 days of the effective date of this subchapter, and shall make quarterly reports to the Council Committee on Human Services on the assistance granted under this program.

(d) Subsections (a) and (b) shall apply as of April 20, 1999.

Law 13-91, the "Technical Amendments Act of 1999," was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 13-435, which was referred to the Committee of the Whole. The Bill was adopted on first and second readings on November 2, 1999, and December 7, 1999, respectively. Signed by the Mayor on December 29, 1999, it was assigned Act No. 13-234 and transmitted to both Houses of Congress for its review. D.C. Law 13-91 became effective on April 12, 2000.
