Chapter 7A. Removal of Trees on the Public Land.

  • Prior to the removal of a tree on the public land, unless the tree is dead or dangerous and in the need of immediate removal, the Department of Public Works, Tree and Landscape Division, shall provide a 7-day written notice, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, to be displayed on the tree, notwithstanding the notice requirement pursuant to § 6-804.

    Legislative History of Laws

    Law 13-314, the "Tree Protection Amendment Act of 2000", was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 13-928, which was referred to the Committee on Public Works and the Environment.  The Bill was adopted on first and second readings on December 5, 2000, and December 19, 2000, respectively.   Signed by the Mayor on January 24, 2000, it was assigned Act No. 13-594 and transmitted to both Houses of Congress for its review.   D.C. Law 13-314 became effective on June 19, 2001.
